Genre: Animation, Action, Adventure

The adventures of Tintin: The secret of the unicorn is based on the french story,'The Adventures of Tintin' by Herge. The audience can infer straight away that the movie is orientated for children, due to the animation and the slapstick humor that is shown in the opening scenes of the movie. The humor is there to get their target audience, which is children to be involved and interested from the very beginning so, they place humor in the opening scenes that children will be able to understand for example, Titin falling over. The film has a lot of names in the opening credits so, the director, Steven Spielberg had to include the kinetics of Titin running around and catching the bad guy to keep the children interested. However, through this the viewers are able to conclude who the main characters are and the outcome of the movie. This links to the first characters we see, which is the shadows of Titin and his dog Snowy. The shadows creates an enigma which goes with the theme of this movie as the genre is mystery. In addition they made Snowy, the dogs shadow white; they have done this so the children can associate Snowy's fur with that specific color, hence the name Snowy. The director wanted to put emphasis on the dog as it is very iconic for this movie, this is because children associate Titin with his dog. In the first few seconds of when we meet the main characters, there are captions that say, 'BANG' 'BANG' highlighting that there is an element of danger; The use of onomatopoeia helps children associate these words with a gun.The audience can also infer that death is a theme in the movie. This is because we see Titin is being framed in the opening credits,
as we see that he has found a dead body and it looks like policemen are chasing him. These are all connotations of the theme of mystery. However, as this is a kids movie they have made the dead man in the shade of pink. Red and Black are usually used to symbolize death but the director has used pink to let the children know that he is dead but,it is not gruesome or disturbing enough for them not to watch the movie. The animation throughout the opening of the movie is very lively and full of color which will make it appealing to the younger generation, by making Titin a black shadow it actually makes him stand out throughout the opening. The song that they uses was conducted by John Williams and is called, 'The Adventures of Titin.' The music is goes with the mystery theme and is creates an atmosphere of secrecy which goes with the opening,as we can only see shadows of the characters and there is no real dialogue so, we don't understand the full investigation that is taking place. Although, the director and his team has created a fun filled opening that is sure to captivate children to watch the rest of the movie due to its playful animation and fun filled music.
